POWERS, WESLEY J. Corp. Wesley J. Powers was born in Canada (date unknown). He enlisted in Virgil, Ill. in the 147th Illi. Inf. Company "F"
At Oostanaula, Ga. on the 3rd of April 1865 he Voluntarily swam the river under heavy fire and secured a ferryboat, by means of which the command crossed.
He was awarded the Congressional Medal of honour on the 24th of October 1895 for these actions.
This is what I have heard and found so far folks. Please keep in mind that information on them is very hard to find or authenticate.
