BRITISH NORTH AMERICANS (CANADIANS) Biography

Thomas Godkin, Jr.

Thomas Godkin, Jr. was born in County Wicklow, Ireland on 26 March 1824. He immigrated to Canada in 1833 or 34. He lived in Brockville, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada. He married Mary Ann French on 21 Feb. 1844. They had 8 children.

He enlisted on the 21st day of November 1862 (This was the date that the regiment was sworn in) at Wayne County, NY. in the 160th New York Volunteer Infantry (I believe it was Co. E)

He was wounded in action with guerillas along the Mississippi on July 7, 1864. He died on or near August 8, 1864 in a hospital in Baton Rouge Louisiana leaving behind his wife and eight children.

He is buried in the Military Cemetery there.
